How To Cook Light, Fluffy Wild Rice
Wild rice has a great-tasting flavour and plenty of nutrients to enrich your meal. Use our tips to make sure you prepare perfectly light and fluffy wild rice.
Cooking Instructions:
As is popular with most grains, the main techniques for preparing wild rice are: boiling and steaming. Similar to cooking beans, it is recommended that you soak your wild rice in water for about 2 hours before cooking. This will ensure that your rice is light and fluffy when cooked.
The ideal ratio is 1 cup of raw wild rice to 4 cups of water. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and allow to simmer for about 45 minutes on a low heat. Remember that wild rice will take longer to cook than regular rice due to the husk that is around the grains. Once cooked it will appear as if those husks have "popped" open.
