Kitchen Hacks For The Savvy Mom
Time isn’t always on your side as a mom. There are so many things you have to juggle, like kids swimming practice, washing dishes, business meetings, doctor’s visits… and all the tasks that put you in a spin. Fortunately there are some kitchen hacks that can help make dinnertime a whole lot simpler without shortchanging flavour.
Living up your tomatoes
Make tomatoes last longer by keeping them at room temperature and not in the fridge. Also, if you store them with the stem facing downwards, you’ll prevent rotting by stopping moisture leaving the stem. Now your happy little red globes can be used for our Creamy Pasta with Tuna, Corn and Cherry Tomatoes recipe.
Speed Up the Butter
Make butter soften faster by using a cheese grater to grate the butter or put it in a sandwich bag and use a rolling pin to create spreadable butter. Now it’s ready to spread on your kid’s sandwiches. Put the rest of that butter to good use with our Butter Chicken Soup recipe.
Next Day Pizza
So your kids came home late from cricket practice and their pizza has cooled down to an icy slice. If you want to reheat pizza without drying it out, simply place a cup of water in the microwave with the slice to add moisture to the air. Now that you know the trick, don’t be afraid of next day pizzas ever again.
Save the Ingredients
Prevent avos from going brown by storing them next to the onions- the sulphur from the onion is the magical formula! Make garlic onions fresher for longer by keeping them in ventilated bags and store potatoes with apples to prevent the earth spuds from sprouting. If you find ways to make your ingredients last longer, you’ll save more money than you realise.
No Skin Please
De-skin potatoes without a peeler by boiling them and then placing them in ice water. The skin will separate and you can pick it right off. Fortunately with this Baked Potatoes with Avo and Bacon Topping recipe, you won’t have to. In future, if any potato needs a peelin’, you’ll know what to do.
