What Products Can I Use When Making Vegan Meals?
When it comes to creating a Veganuary meal plan, or any vegan meal plan for that matter, there are a few key products that you're going to need in your pantry. Here is a quick shopping list to follow to make sure you have pretty much everything you need to follow a nutritious, wholesome vegan lifestyle:
- Fruits and Vegetables – these are going to be your staple food group that will be combined with every meal. Make sure you get the rainbow when shopping. By that we mean get fruits and vegetables from every colour group to ensure as much variety as possible.
- Whole grains – another staple for any vegan lifestyle is to incorporate a wide range of healthy grains into your diet, especially rice, barley, quinoa, bulgur wheat and any other grains that you fancy.
- Protein – just because you won't be eating meat or dairy, doesn't mean your diet needs to be low on protein. As a vegan, you'll be getting your protein from different sources, mainly nuts, legumes, beans, seeds and soya products like tofu.
- Condiments and Snacks– it’s worth investing in a range of condiments that can make your life a little easier as you transition to a vegan lifestyle. Stock up on milk substitutes like almond milk, rice milk or soya milk. Choose vegan cheese, vegan yoghurt or soya yoghurt. Stock the pantry with snacks like vegan butter, vegan mayonnaise, nut butters, dried fruit and a range of nuts and seeds.
